Initiated by Tim, the owner of Tallarook Hotel, Within106 aimed to address the challenge of finding local vendors in regional Victoria. Tim recognized the need to provide travelers with unbiased information about local businesses and promote sustainable tourism practices.

Process

Research and Planning

The project began with thorough research to understand user needs and competitor analysis. Key questions were identified, including how to surpass existing tourism tools like Google, what users require from Within106, and when and why they would use it.

User-Centric Approach

User interviews were conducted across Seymour, Yea, and Tallarook to gain insights into travelers' planning habits and preferences. It was discovered that most travelers preferred easy-to-use tools like Google Maps and word-of-mouth recommendations - a fine balance between both accessibility and trustworthiness.

Design Strategy

The design strategy focused on creating a user-friendly platform that catered to travelers' needs for on-the-go discovery rather than pre-travel planning. Emphasis was placed on providing relevant and unbiased information in a concise format.

Branding and Visual Design

The branding and visual design aimed to capture the essence of regional Victoria while instilling trust and reliability in users. José Maturana led the design efforts, ensuring that the platform's visual identity reflected its unique position in the market.

Through collaborative efforts, the team successfully launched WITHIN106 aligned with the initiative's goals. The design incorporated user feedback and emphasized simplicity, relevance, and authenticity.

The positive response from stakeholders led to the initiation of phase two, focusing on finalizing branding, copywriting for local businesses, and addressing technical barriers. The Within106 initiative demonstrated that business initiatives can prioritize community impact over profits, contributing to local economic development and promoting a better travel experience for explorers in regional Victoria.
